Arthur Werner is licensed to provide local moving services within the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. A local move can be within a single state or between two states. In order for a moving company to perform a move within a state the mover must be licensed by that state’s Department of Transportation. For a move between two different states, the mover needs to be licensed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Arthur Werner is one of very few tri-state area movers that is licensed in all three states as well as by the U.S. DOT for all interstate moves. If your mover is licensed, it will mean that your mover has filed his workman’s compensation, liability, & cargo insurance information with the state authorities.
Pricing – Moving services can be very costly. Regardless of the cost of your move, it is very important to us that you understand what you are paying for. In a normal move, the charges will be broken into 4 different components as follows;
Labor – the labor is the price you are paying for each mover for each hour that work is being done. The hours are broken into 15 minute increments. For example, if you move starts at 9 am and ends at 1:15, you will be charged for 4 hours and 15 minutes. Each move requires a different sized crew. Arthur Werner quotes prices by the crew. The price per crew includes the appropriate sized truck.
Travel time – the time it takes our truck to reach your home at the beginning of the move and the time it takes to return to the garage after the move is completed. We do not charge the actual drive time, we charge a set amount which ranges from ½ hour to 1 hour for moves within the tri-state area.
Packing materials – In order to perform your move in a professional manner, specific materials are needed to protect your household goods during handling and transport. We charge only for cardboard boxes used during the move. We do not charge for padded moving blankets used to protect your furniture, tape or bubble wrap. These packing supplies are free unless provided to the customer in advance.
Valuation – Moving companies are required by law to provide customers with valuation coverage at no additional cost. This type of valuation is based upon weight and will not cover actual value of an item damaged or lost during a move. You can supplement the coverage by purchasing additional coverage. The rates range from $5 to $10 per $1,000 of coverage requested and depends upon the area you are moving from and to.
Arthur Werner provides service to all points in the United States from a single item to full service packing for a residence or office. Arthur Werner always uses our own vehicles and full time professional movers and drivers. In this manner, we can control the efficiency and quality of your move from beginning to end. As an independent company, we are able to provide you with exact pick up dates and delivery schedules. Our service includes up to 1 month free storage while in transit, detailed inventory listings of all household goods and free padding for all furniture. Full service packing is available at an additional charge.
Cost – Moving long distance can be very costly. Obtaining accurate estimates are important and will insure there are no unexpected or hidden charges. Our guaranteed not to exceed prices are our trademark and are what makes our customers keep coming back over and over. In general, interstate moves are broken down into 3 components:
Line Haul – The cost to transport your household goods from Point A to Point B. This price can be provided to you in either cubic feet or weight. When you are moving a small amount of items, it is more efficient to get the price in cubic feet. This is a very accurate method. For a larger move, the weight option can be equally as efficient. When choosing this method, the exact weight will be determined only after the truck has been loaded and the price can then be adjusted either higher or lower. For cubic feet, the price is determined up front based upon the list of items you are moving. Adding to the list or removing items will adjust the price proportionally.
Packing – Arthur Werner provides free wrapping of furniture using clean, padded moving blankets. This service includes dismantling basic furniture and reassembling it at the new location at no charge. We provide a range of packing services that includes basic protection of furniture, partial packing of breakables, or a full pack of your entire home. You can customize the amount of packing to be performed by the movers based on your needs. Additional charges will apply to packing. In general, packing for interstate moves is determined by the box. For example, if a china box needs to be packed, the charge will include the labor and the materials.
Valuation – The basic valuation coverage of $.60 per pound as is required by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation is included in your move costs at no additional charge. You can obtain other types of coverage either through Arthur Werner or your own insurance company.
In addition to these primary cost components, you may be subject to other charges on a special needs basis. As example, there may be extra charges for custom made wooden crates, hoisting, long carry or stairs at the delivery destination. All these will be discussed up front prior to your move and will be included in your total move cost quote. Another important issue that can arise is getting a tractor trailer access to your new home. In some cases, they can not approach and need to be off-loaded to a smaller truck for delivery. In this case, there might be an extra cost for the labor time. Notifying the estimator of any special circumstances surrounding your move is very important in insuring your move is performed as smoothly as is possible and your price is as accurate as possible.
